I-65 Semi/Car Wreck Injures Sedan Driver

Posted on May 10th, 2011

Clif Knight of the Hartselle Inquirer reports that one person was seriously injured in a truck-car collision on I-65 approximately a mile south of the Alabama 36 interchange on I-65 on Monday morning.

Hartselle firefighters used extrication tools to rescue a man from his late model sedan after it landed in a drainage ditch under the weight of a 18-wheeler loaded with cast iron. He was airlifted by Air Evac helicopter to Huntsville Hospital. Both the truck and the car were apparently traveling north when they exited the left lane of I-65 and skidded down an embankment for about 75 yards before coming to a stop. The trailer overturned dumping part of its load on top of the car. A large pine tree was clipped off at its base and fell on top of the wreckage.

Rachel Batrum 18 Wheeler Accident

Posted on Apr 11th, 2011

Rachel Batrum of Athens, Alabama won benefits for a lifetime after she was injured by a truck driver who had violated D.O.T. and F.M.C.S.R. rules and had a history of exceeding safe “hours of service.”

The insurance company for the driver of the 18 wheeler made an offer that would hardly pay my medical bills. After Mr. Wolfe took the case, he aggressively pursued information about the truck driver and his driving habits. Mr. Wolfe discovered that the driver of the 18 wheeler exceeded his driving time or what is known as “hours of service” under the Department of Transportation (DOT) and Federal Motor Carriers Safety Regulations (FMCSR). He also discovered that the driver had not been properly trained.

These violations may have occurred in other cases. If you or someone you know were injured in a trucking accident, do not settle with insurance companies until your case is screened for violations and you know all the facts from a trucking accident lawyer.

Alabama State Troopers say a Chrysler minivan crossed the median on I 65 and slammed head-on into another vehicle. A third vehicle was also involved. The cause of the fatal car accident remains under investigation.

Authorities say the minivan was heading southbound on I-65 on Saturday around 3 p.m. For reasons still unknown, the minivan swerved off the roadway and into the median roughly seven miles south of Clanton. The minivan traveled through the median and into oncoming traffic.

The Chrysler slammed head-on into a Ford Taurus carrying four 18-year-old high school students. A northbound BMW then also ran into the Taurus. All four young men in the Ford Taurus were killed in the wreck. The four young men were reportedly traveling through Alabama on their way home after spring break. Jillian Kramer of the Press-Register reports that a 75-year-old Chickasaw man died this afternoon from injuries sustained in a wreck that occurred this morning on Telegraph Road.

The man’s name was being withheld pending notification of relatives, Sgt. Brad Penton, a spokesman for the Chickasaw Police Department, said tonight.

The man was driving a Chevrolet Cavalier that collided with a log truck. The crash caused logs to spill from the truck, blocking traffic along the Chickasaw roadway for about five hours, police said.

Both drivers were taken to an area hospital, said Penton.

The truck driver, whose name was not released, was treated for injuries to his arm.

Penton said the log truck was headed south on Telegraph Road about 10:30 a.m. At the same time, the car turned from the parking lot of a Shell gas station and north onto the roadway.
