Posted on Apr 27th, 2011

The collision happened on Lucas Ferry Road, near the intersection of Moyers Road. Both cars were headed south.

The collision happened at 9:35 a.m. The trooper was responding to another wreck, on Huntsville Browns Ferry Road, and witnesses say he was running his emergency lights and siren. After the crash on Lucas Ferry Road, both vehicles ended up in a field along the roadway.

The car overturned and caught fire. At first, crews believed just one person was inside, but they found two bodies inside the car after the fire was put out.

The trooper was hurt, but is expected to recover.

“Any time there is a major traffic collision, especially involving a state employee, they will come out and actually investigate that particular scene at that time,” said Trooper Curtis Summerville. “Those are specialized guys in a specialized unit in terms of major accident investigations.
