Five people in collision near Clanton
Authorities say a head-on collision took the lives of five people over the weekend in Chilton County. Alabama State Troopers say a Chrysler minivan crossed the median on I 65 and slammed head-on into another vehicle. A third vehicle was also involved. The cause of the fatal car accident remains under investigation.
Authorities say the minivan was heading southbound on I-65 on Saturday around 3 p.m. For reasons still unknown, the minivan swerved off the roadway and into the median roughly seven miles south of Clanton. The minivan traveled through the median and into oncoming traffic.
The Chrysler slammed head-on into a Ford Taurus carrying four 18-year-old high school students. A northbound BMW then also ran into the Taurus. All four young men in the Ford Taurus were killed in the wreck. The four young men were reportedly traveling through Alabama on their way home after spring break. The 21-year-old driver of the minivan also perished in the crash.
